The Mexican War of 1846--1848 was the training ground for many leaders of the Civil War. Many leftover weapons, uniforms, and accoutrements from this War found their way onto the battlefields of the early 1860's. Knapsacks are of no exception. Early in the conflict both sides used these models in near equal numbers.
The pattern called for oilskin covered canvas, leather harness,blackened which should be removable. 1 1/4 iron hardware is used throughout, metal buttons on inner flap. The pack is finished with hand detailing .
Note; this pack treated with latex, and is made two inches wider than original to accomidate modern body styles . But If you prefer it can be coated in period fashion and made to original specs. 12 by 12 with a 4 inch gussett for an additional charge.
